More About The Producer

Established in 2010, Charles Dufour Champagne is a family-owned estate situated in the Vallée de l'Ours, within the Aube Department of southern Champagne. Charles Dufour, after studying winemaking in Beaune, Burgundy, returned to his family's domain, Robert Dufour et Fils, to continue the legacy. His father, Yves, had already transitioned the vineyards to organic practices by 2006, ensuring a foundation of sustainability and quality. Charles's approach blends traditional methods with innovative techniques, producing Champagnes that reflect the unique terroir of the Côte des Bar. The estate's flagship cuvée, "Bulles de Comptoir," exemplifies Charles Dufour's philosophy. This Extra Brut Champagne is a blend of Pinot Noir (60%), Chardonnay (30%), and Pinot Blanc (10%), sourced from organic vineyards in Landreville, a village in Champagne's southern Côte des Bar.

The wine undergoes native fermentation in barrel, with 80% of the base vintage from 2020 and 20% from reserve wines dating back to the 1980s, creating a complex and layered profile. The "Bulles de Comptoir" series is released annually, each numbered to denote its unique character and vintage composition.

Charles Dufour's commitment to minimal intervention winemaking is evident in his practices. He ferments three-quarters of his wines in barrel, with the remainder in stainless steel, allowing indigenous microorganisms to drive fermentation. Both primary fermentation and malolactic conversion are conducted with native yeasts, and the wines are aged on lees for extended periods to enhance complexity. This dedication to organic and biodynamic principles results in Champagnes that are authentic, expressive, and true to their origins.
