Domaine des Comtes is one of the few Burgundy estates equally renowned for both white and red wines. Founded in the 19th century, it gained prominence under Dominique Lafon, who took over in 1984 and transitioned the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming.
The domaine was among the first in Meursault to barrel-age wines for extended periods, contributing to their rich texture and complexity. Their Volnay reds are sometimes overlooked in favor of the whites but have developed a cult following for their finesse and longevity.
The domaine has also been involved in vineyard restoration, notably replanting sections of Meursault Clos de la Barre after acquiring the parcel in 1956. Over the years, Comtes Lafon wines have earned top critical acclaim, solidifying their reputation among the finest in Burgundy."
