More About The Producer

Paul Jaboulet Aîné is one of the most celebrated wineries in the Northern Rhône Valley of France, with a rich history dating back to 1834. Founded in the early 19th century, Paul Jaboulet Aîné quickly gained recognition for its premium wines, particularly its flagship wine, La Chapelle, a top-tier Hermitage from the iconic Hermitage Hill. The winery grew through multiple generations, with each succeeding family member contributing to its evolution and success. Over time, Paul Jaboulet Aîné became one of the largest and most influential wine producers in the Northern Rhône. La Chapelle the flagship wine was typically based on the lush fruit of Le Méal and the firm structure of Les Bessards, Hermitage’s two greatest climats. In 2006, the Jaboulet family sold the estate to the Frey family, the owners of the prestigious Château La Lagune in Bordeaux. Under their stewardship, the estate has continued to flourish, with an emphasis on preserving the estate’s legacy while embracing sustainable and biodynamic practices. Our expert team at The World of Wine has had the privilege of enjoying the 1978, 1983, and 1990 vintages of La Chapelle with our private clients, and these have been some of the finest expressions of Syrah we’ve ever experienced. The 1990 holds a special place in our hearts. We are currently on the lookout for the legendary 1961 vintage and hope to add it to our collection soon.
