Campbell Mattinson
Campbell Mattinson, born in 1968, is one of our favourite Australian wine critics, he is also an editor and author with a career spanning several decades. In 2002, Campbell Mattinson and Gary Walsh co-founded The Wine Front, Australia’s most active wine review site, offering independent and insightful wine reviews.
When James Halliday retired, Campbell Mattinson served as the chief editor for the Halliday Wine Companion for the 2024 and 2025 editions, a very prestigious role before stepping down to focus on his own ventures.
Campbell Mattinson has authored several notable books including ‘The Wine Hunter: The life story of Australia’s First great winemaker’, a biography of Maurice O’Shea, which received high praise from critics. Throughout his career, Mattinson has received numerous accolades including:
- Winner of Best Australia Sports Writing Award in 1996
- Winner of NSW Wine Press Communicator Award in 2004 and 2006
- Chairman’s Award at the Louis Roederer International Wine Writers Award in 2016
