Domaine Belargus Bonnes Blanches 2020

Domaine Belargus is a new superstar of the Loire Valley. Ivan Massonat had spent his time enjoying the fine wines of the world whilst working in finance, building a collection of Burgundy, Bordeaux and wines of his native Savoie; however his dream was always to create his own wines. Despite his love for Burgundy he was priced out of that market, so his search for vines began elsewhere. After much searching he was drawn to the Loire Valley. He secured some of the oldest and greatest vineyards in the region with a desire of making wines that represented the terroir. In 2016 he made his first iconic purchase and bought the historic Coteau Des Trilles from Jo Pithon and now Domaine Belargus has 20 hectares under vine from which he makes diverse expressions of Chenin Blanc. His mentorship under Jo Pithon, Philippe Pacalet and Thibault Liger Belair have enabled him to bring a wealth of knowledge and hard work to the region. The Wine Advocate tasted the wines and stated "This is one of the most spectacular new entries in the history of the Wine Advocate, and it makes the Loire, especially it's tributary, Layon, one of the most fascinating terroirs in the Anjou region. Domaine Belargus is the name that should soon populate the world's finest wine lists, especially since the prices are still affordable". The World of Wine was one of the first to discover Domaine Belargus in Australia and we love the wines. They are Chenin Blancs that we recommend Chardonnay collectors to explore.
