More About The Producer

Didier Dagueneau was born in 1956 in the small village of Saint-Andelain, within the Loire Valley. Though his family had a history in winemaking, Dagueneau initially pursued a career in motorcycle racing and sidecar racing. However, he returned to the Loire in the early 1980s as an untrained hand in growing grapes or making wine, he set about crafting what are now considered the most intense, chiselled and now, sought-after Sauvignon Blancs on the planet. Dagueneau’s approach to viticulture was revolutionary for the time. He practiced low-yield farming and focused on vine health, believing that healthy, low-yielding vines produced wines with superior depth and concentration.

Dagueneau owned several exceptional vineyard sites in Pouilly-Fumé, including the famed Silex vineyard, named for its flinty soil composition. This terroir imparts a distinctive minerality to his wines, especially in his flagship bottling, “Silex.” Other notable vineyards include Pur Sang and Buisson Renard, each of which contributes unique characteristics to the final wines, showcasing the diversity of Pouilly-Fumé. Didier Dagueneau’s unexpected death in a light plane accident in 2008 was a significant loss for the wine world. However, his children, Benjamin and Charlotte Dagueneau, have continued his legacy, carrying forward the same commitment to quality and terroir-driven winemaking that their father championed. Under their leadership, the estate has maintained its reputation for excellence and continues to be celebrated for its wines. The World of Wine encourages you to explore the beautiful wines of Didier Dagueneau, you will see these wines listed in the best restaurants around the world and in our rare releases during the year.

They are textural wines that will change your perspective towards Sauvignon Blanc. They are wines that need age, so don't be afraid to cellar and give them a decant.
