Robert Groffier is a relatively new domaine when speaking of Burgundy. Started in the 1950s by Jules Groffier, it is now run by the third generation, Nicolas Groffier. Owning just under eight hectares, the domaine is located in Morey-Saint-Denis but has holdings on both the north and south side of the village. The vineyards are meticulously maintained and planted to clones rather than a massale selection and they graft onto 161-49 rootstock which brings more finesse and lower yields. The founders of The World of Wine adore the wines from Domaine Robert Groffer and actively collect them for their private cellars. Our pick from the range is the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses and we understand it is priced in the same realm as most significant Grand Cru wines, we encourage you to ignore that it's a Premier Cru as it's one of the finest wines in Burgundy. An ethereal beauty that has to be explored and treasured carefully, here are some iconic vintage tips to add to your watchlist 1999, 2001, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2019. If there is any site earmarked for promotion to Grand Cru status in Cote de Nuits - Groffier makes a strong case for it to be Les Amoureuses.
