More About The Producer

Emidio Pepe is an iconic Italian winery located in the Abruzzo region, known for its organic and biodynamic approach to winemaking and its commitment to crafting expressive wines with minimal intervention. Founded in 1964 by Emidio Pepe himself, the estate has become a cultural and innovative beacon in Italian winemaking and recognized for its preservation of traditional methods. His dedication to high-quality, terroir-driven wines—particularly that Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo - bucks the trend of the region to make broad and simple wines of lower quality trending towards a high toned and finessed style. One of the most distinctive aspects of Pepe’s winemaking is the entirely manual process. After hand-picking the grapes, Pepe’s team presses the fruit by foot, a method that ensures gentle extraction and preserves the grape’s delicate flavors. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts and the wines are bottled without filtration, allowing the wines to develop more complexity over time. Emidio Pepe's wines are known for their exceptional aging potential, with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo able to age gracefully for decades. The World of Wine often has access to aged wines directly from Emidio Pepe's Musuem Cellar. Please enquire with our team to discover what's available.
