Harlan Estate
"Harlan Estate might be the single most profound red wine made not just in California, but in the world." - Robert Parker
Founded in 1984 by Bill Harlan, the estate was born from a simple but ambitious idea: to create a California wine that could stand shoulder to shoulder with the great estates of Europe. It was not about imitation. It was about building something timeless, rooted in the land and shaped by vision.
The property itself is dramatic. Nearly 240 acres of wild terrain, with just over 40 acres planted to vine, surrounded by untouched woodland. The vineyard is a patchwork of exposures and elevations, giving the winemaking team a broad canvas to work with. From the beginning, the focus has been on Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
Harlan Estate releases just one wine each year, and it is never rushed. The team works with patience, blending from dozens of small lots and aging the wine in French oak until it is ready to speak for itself.
Over time, Harlan Estate garnered an astounding twenty 100-point scores, making it one of Napa's leading “cult wines,” known for its glowing reviews, limited quantities, and devoted cult following. Bill Harlan's dream of crafting a California wine of "first growth" caliber came to fruition through his unwavering dedication to quality and passion for winemaking.
