Woodlands was established in 1973 by David and Heather Watson, making it one of the earliest vineyards planted in Margaret River. The Watsons were inspired by the region’s potential to produce world-class wines and were among the pioneers of its modern winemaking era. Woodlands is situated in the Wilyabrup sub-region, one of Margaret River’s most esteemed viticultural areas. The estate benefits from the region’s unique terroir, which is characterized by its Mediterranean climate, coastal influence, and ancient gravelly loam soils.he Watson family, inspired by the iconic wines of Bordeaux, envisioned crafting similar expressions in the unique terroir of Margaret River. Their winemaking philosophy emphasizes a minimal-intervention approach, allowing the fruit and the region's distinctive characteristics to take center stage.
