Initially trained as a journalist, Hooke began writing about wine in 1983 and has since become one of Australia's most respected independent wine writers. His extensive experience includes working in wineries and wine retailing, which has enriched his understanding of the wine industry.
He has written for prestigious publications such as The Real Review, Decanter, and Gourmet Traveller Wine, and has been a regular columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald. Hooke is also the Chair of the Vin de Champagne Awards and a judge for the Australian Winemaker of the Year.
Throughout his career, Hooke has demonstrated a profound appreciation for various wine regions, both within Australia and internationally. He has a particular affinity for the Barossa Valley, Margaret River, New Zealand, Bordeaux, Champagne and a special fondness for Barolo. His extensive tasting notes and reviews reflect his passion for discovering the great wines of the world.
