Yangarra’s history dates back to the early 1940s, when its original vineyards were first planted. However, its modern chapter began in 2001, when the property was purchased by the Jackson Family Wines.
Yangarra is part of the Jackson Family Wines portfolio, a global wine powerhouse founded by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke. This connection brings world-class expertise, resources, and a commitment to sustainability to the estate, while allowing Yangarra to maintain its unique identity and focus on McLaren Vale’s terroir.Under the leadership of winemaker Peter Fraser, Yangarra has transformed into a standout producer. Yangarra is nestled in the cooler northeast corner of McLaren Vale, a region celebrated for its Mediterranean climate and ancient, nutrient-rich soils. The estate encompasses 170 hectares, with around 90 hectares dedicated to vineyards and the rest preserved as natural vegetation to promote biodiversity. The vines thrive in sandy ironstone soils, imparting distinctive minerality and structure to the wines.Yangarra’s wines are truly outstanding, with a focus on Rhône varietals like Grenache and Shiraz. In 2024, the Yangarra Old Vine Grenache was crowned Wine of the Year, and the winery was recently ranked as the #4 Best Winery in Australia by the Wine Companion.
