Established in 1969 by Raymond and Margaret Lake this winery has consistently been at the forefront of the Hunter Valley wine scene, earning a devoted following and the respect of collectors, sommeliers, and wine lovers alike. Lakes Folly was one of the first vineyards in the Hunter Valley to focus on the production of premium, single-vineyard wines. The Lake family recognized the region’s potential for making world-class wines and began planting their estate with a focus on two varieties: Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The tiny cellar door is only open to the public for a limited time each year and is located at the base of this ampitheatre-like vineyard - with vines rising on all sides completing the scene. This intimate, almost secretive approach only adds to the allure of the winery and makes it a special destination for those who are lucky enough to experience it. During this brief window, visitors are welcomed to sample the wines in a truly personal setting, allowing for an up-close experience of the winery's legacy. We have a small collection of the Lakes Folly wines and will be trying to accumilate more over the years.
