Margaret River

Tucked away in the southwest corner of Australia, the Margaret River wine region seamlessly blends world-class winemaking with stunning natural landscapes, boasting pristine beaches, lush forests, and gently rolling vineyards.

Margaret River is located in Western Australia, about 3 hours (270 kilometers) south of Perth. Bounded by the Indian Ocean to the west and tranquil countryside to the east, the region stretches approximately 100 kilometers from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin. The area benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with cooling ocean breezes and a long growing season, ideal for crafting refined, elegant wines.

The history of Margaret River as a wine region began in the late 1960s. The first vineyard was planted by Dr. Tom Cullity at Vasse Felix in 1967, influenced by research from Dr. John Gladstones, who identified the region's potential for viticulture. The region quickly gained attention, and by the early 1970s, other notable wineries like Moss Wood, Cape Mentelle, and Cullen Wines were established.

The region is home to these grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc with some small additions of Shiraz, Merlot and Riesling.
