The vineyard itself is located on the south side of the Clutha River, in the heart of Central Otago, a wine region renowned for its cool climate, which is particularly suited to growing Pinot Noir.The winery was founded by Alan Brady, a former businessman who turned his passion for wine into a successful venture. In the early years, the winery was named after the Mount Difficulty mountain, which looms majestically over the vineyard and serves as a distinctive feature of the region’s landscape.Mount Difficulty's focus from the start was to produce wines that express the distinctive terroir of Central Otago, particularly the Pinot Noir for which the region is famed. Over time, the winery expanded to include other varietals such as Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Gris.
