Established in 2000 by Mike and Claudia Weersing, the winery was founded on a shared vision to craft wines that authentically express the unique terroir of the region. Mike, with his extensive experience in Burgundy and other esteemed wine regions, and Claudia, with her background in viticulture, embarked on this journey to create wines that reflect their passion and dedication.
The winery's portfolio includes notable wines such as the **Field of Fire Chardonnay** and the **Lion's Tooth Pinot Noir**, both exemplifying the winery's commitment to quality and terroir expression. These wines are crafted using organic and biodynamic farming practices, with minimal intervention in the winemaking process to preserve the natural character of the grapes. The Field of Fire Chardonnay, for instance, is celebrated for its complexity and depth, showcasing the unique limestone and clay soils of the Waipara estate.
In 2017, the winery was acquired by Steve Smith MW and Brian Sheth, who shared the founders' vision for producing exceptional wines. Under their stewardship, the winery has continued to honor its legacy while embracing innovation. Estate Manager and Winemaker Huw Kinch, who joined in 2018, has been instrumental in guiding this new chapter, bringing his expertise from crafting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Martinborough to explore new expressions in the Waipara region.
