More About The Producer

Domaine Michel Lafarge, situated in the heart of Volnay in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, has been a cornerstone of traditional winemaking since the early 19th century. The Lafarge family's deep-rooted history in the region is exemplified by their acquisition of the iconic Clos du Château des Ducs monopole in 1900. Michel Lafarge, who began working alongside his father Henri in 1946, led the domaine for over six decades, with his son Frédéric joining him in 1978. In 2018, the next generation, represented by Clothilde Lafarge, daughter of Frédéric and Chantal, continued the family's winemaking legacy.

The domaine oversees approximately 11.6 hectares of vineyards, primarily in Volnay and Beaune, including notable holdings in premier cru sites such as Clos des Chênes and Les Caillerets. Their vinification process remains traditional, with 100% destemmed grapes and restrained use of new oak (around 5% for the top cuvées). This approach highlights the purity of the fruit, resulting in wines that are exceptionally focused, energetic, and expressive of their terroir.

Under Michel and Frédéric's guidance, the domaine converted to biodynamic viticulture in 1996, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable farming practices. Their wines are celebrated for their purity, age-worthiness, and delicate expression of the Volnay terroir. The Lafarge family's dedication to traditional methods and respect for their vineyards have solidified their reputation as one of the premier producers in the region.
