Thibault Liger-Belair is cousin to Vicomte Liger Belair of Vosne Romanée. This domaine has been in the hands of the Liger-Belair family for 250 years. It was founded in 1720 by the mayor of Nuits-Saint-Georges. It domaine was subsequently passed down within the family for five generations in a row. Thibault came to work there in 2001. He took over the vineyards as winemaker and started domaine Thibault Liger-Belair. Before that, Thibault studied viticulture and oenology and worked for a communications company in Paris. He also sold wines online. In 2001 he decided to follow his true calling – making his own wine.In 2002, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Charmottes and Vosne-Romanée Aux Reas were harvested for the first time. In 2003, Richebourg Grand Cru, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Petits Monts and Bourgogne Rouge were added. And Beaujolais followed in 2009.The various appellations of Liger-Belair are grown and farmed in different ways depending on their soil and climate. Growth of the vines is closely monitored and yields are deliberately kept low. This results in wine of exceptional quality. One of our favourite wines in the range is the Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les St Georges, this an incredible Burgundy that captures the complexity and elegance that can be found in elite Pinot Noir.
