Chateau Calon Segur is a classified 3rd Growth estate from Saint Estephe on the left bank. Calon-Ségur holds the distinction of being the most northerly classified growth in Saint-Estèphe. Vine cultivation in this region dates back to the 12th century but the estate officially took on its name in the 18th century. The Marquis de Ségur owned prestigious estates such as Lafite, Latour and Margaux, added his name to the estate - incorporating “Calon” which refers to the boats that transported timber down the Gironde River. He is famously quoted as saying, “I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon-Ségur.” In honor of this sentiment the iconic heart symbol was included on the label in the early 20th century. Château Calon Ségur is generally considered one of the most powerful wines in the appellation Saint-Estèphe
