More About The Producer

One of New Zealand's true pioneering and benchmark producers, Craggy Range is a family owned success story of the highest order. Craggy Range was founded in 1997 by Australian businessman Terry Peabody, who was inspired to create a family legacy in wine. Peabody’s vision was to establish a winery that would craft wines from single vineyards allowing the unique qualities of each site to shine through. This focus on single-vineyard expression was relatively new for New Zealand at the time and quickly set Craggy Range apart. Peabody collaborated with famed winemaker Steve Smith MW, whose expertise in viticulture and knowledge of New Zealand’s terroir helped guide the winery’s development. Craggy Range owns vineyards in two of New Zealand’s premier wine regions: the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke’s Bay and Te Muna Road in Martinborough.

The vineyards have been awarded #11 in the Top 50 Best Vineyards in the World and also the Best Vineyard in Australasia 2021. The two flagship wines are the Sophia (Cabernet Blend) and Aroha (Pinot Noir).
