Established in 1892 by Alfred Percy Birks and his brother, Birks Wendouree Cellars is a historic winery located in South Australia's Clare Valley. The brothers began by planting a small block of Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Shiraz, laying the foundation for what would become one of Australia's most esteemed wineries. The original stone cellars, constructed in 1914, remain in use today, preserving the winery's rich heritage.
Wendouree is renowned for its distinctive and age-worthy red wines, produced from old vines planted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The winery's portfolio includes varietal and blended wines such as Shiraz, Shiraz Mataro, Shiraz Malbec, and Cabernet Malbec. These wines are highly sought after, known for their unique character and longevity.
Since 1974, Tony and Lita Brady have been the custodians of Wendouree, maintaining its traditional winemaking practices. Under their stewardship, the winery has continued to produce wines that reflect its storied past, adhering to methods that honor the legacy of its founders.
