More About The Producer

A rare beauty, Domaine Leflaive is one of the most iconic White Burgundy producers. The Leflaive family’s winemaking history in Burgundy dates back to the early 20th century. The domaine was founded in 1717 but it wasn't until the 1920s when Joseph Leflaive took over the estate that the foundation for its future success was laid. Joseph was a visionary who invested heavily in improving vineyard practices and winemaking techniques. He also acquired some of the best vineyard plots in Puligny-Montrachet that would become the cornerstone of the domaine’s reputation. In the mid-20th century, under the leadership of Joseph's son, Vincent Leflaive, the estate grew in prominence. It was however the stewardship of Anne-Claude Leflaive that truly solidified Domaine Leflaive's position as one of Burgundy’s elite producers. Anne-Claude was a strong proponent of biodynamic farming and pushed for a more sustainable approach to viticulture. This approach enriched the already enviable holdings and year on year produced better and better fruit. The wines are aged for 12 months in 25% new oak and are then transferred to steel tanks where they are allowed to clarify naturally over the second winter. Only a handful of bottles are allocated to Australia and they are usually just as hard to find as DRC, Comte du Liger Belair and Ramonet. The World of Wine has access to Domaine Leflaive as far back as 2009 so please express your interest with our team and prepare to embark on a journey with one of the shining lights of white burgundy.
