(Puligny-Montrachet “Champgains”- Domaine Arnaud Ente) The new addition of Champgains is absolutely stellar in 2014 as well. These nearly sixty year-old vines have produced a classic example that has a bit more depth at the core than the Referts, but which is equally racy and refined. The bouquet offers up scents of white peach, apple, a fine base of chalky soil tones, orange zest and just a hint of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and absolutely complete in personality, with a fine core, bright acids and excellent cut and grip on the very long, very elegant finish. Chapeau! This too is cool, pure and airy with its elegant nose of green apple, acacia blossom, citrus peel and gentle wood nuances. There is a notably finer and more sophisticated mouth feel to the round, caressing and sleekly muscular medium-bodied flavors that brim with sappy dry extract before terminating in a softly mineral-inflected and gorgeously long finish. This is very classy juice.
