  • We think of the Giacomo Conterno Monfortino Barolo Riserva as the Petrus of Barolo, a rare and luxurious wine that has unlimited ageing potential
  • "There is little doubt the 2002 Monfortino will soon take its place as one of the greatest Monfortinos ever made. It is the most fitting last chapter to the life of one of the world’s greatest winemakers.", Antonio Galloni
  • The 2002 is the final Riserva that was crafted by Giovanni Conterno before his passing in 2004, this is a piece of history and caps an incredible legacy left by one of the icons of Piedmonte

More About The Producer

Founded in 1908 by Giacomo Conterno, the estate became famous under his son Giovanni, who introduced the first Barolo Monfortino in 1924, now considered one of Italy’s greatest wines. Today, the winery is run by Roberto Conterno, who continues its commitment to long-aging, powerful wines.

A unique aspect of Conterno's winemaking is its complete rejection of barriques, sticking to large oak casks for aging. In 2018, Roberto Conterno acquired the historic Nervi estate in Gattinara, bringing his expertise to northern Piedmont’s Nebbiolo wines. Conterno wines are among the most collectible in the world, with Monfortino frequently achieving record-breaking auction prices
