Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the village of Ampuis, the estate is now widely regarded as one of the most iconic and influential producers in France. In the 1960s, Etienne's son Marcel Guigal took over the estate and guided it through a significant period of growth and innovation. Marcel modernized many of the winery's practices and dedicated himself to producing wines that would redefine quality in the Rhône Valley starting in the Northern Rhone. Perhaps the most important decision during Marcel's tenure was to acquire a trio of spectacular vineyards in Cote Rotie that would set a global standard for Syrah production - La Landonne, La Mouline & in the 1980's La Turque.
