Antinori Winery is one of the most prestigious and historically significant wine producers in Italy, with a winemaking tradition that dates back over 600 years. The Antinori family has been involved in winemaking since 1385.
With over 26 generations of experience, the current head of the family is Marchese Piero Antinori, who led the company for decades, and now his daughters, Albiera, Allegra, and Alessia, play key roles in the company’s operations. While the Antinori family respects its long-standing traditions, they are also known for innovation.
In the 1970s, Antinori helped revolutionize the Italian wine industry by introducing "Super Tuscans." These are wines made from non-traditional grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, often blended with the local Sangiovese grape. One of their most famous wines is Tignanello (released in 1971).
Solaia the estates flagship wine was created in 1978, containing 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cab Franc - later Sangiovese was introduced to the Solaia blend. In 2000, the 1997 Solaia was named Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator which made headlines across the wine world. This willingness to produce experimental wines alongside traditional styles is one of the reasons that Antinori remains one of the world's most admired wine producers. This was formally recognised in March 2023 when Antinori was named The World's Most Admired Wine Brand.
