Antonio Galloni is a highly influential figure in wine journalism, renowned for his deep expertise, precise reviews, and innovative methods of connecting wine producers with consumers. As the founder of Vinous, he has transformed wine criticism by combining expert analysis with modern digital tools.
Born in the United States to Italian parents, Galloni grew up immersed in Italian culture, where wine was a natural part of everyday life. His family roots in Piedmont introduced him to the region’s storied wines, sparking a lifelong fascination with wine’s cultural and historical dimensions.
Galloni’s academic path initially led him to music, earning degrees in classical voice from Berklee College of Music and Peabody Conservatory. However, his passion for wine ultimately shifted his career trajectory. He later obtained an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, blending his artistic sensibility with a strategic mindset that would later define his career.
Galloni began his wine-writing career in 2004 with the launch of Piedmont Report, a newsletter dedicated to the wines of Northern Italy. In 2006, Robert Parker invited Galloni to join The Wine Advocate, where he expanded his coverage to include California, Champagne, and Burgundy. In 2013, Galloni founded Vinous, aiming to modernize wine journalism with a dynamic, user-focused platform.
