Castello di Monsanto
Castello di Monsanto was founded by Fabrizio Bianchi in 1962. His father, Aldo Bianchi, purchased the property in 1960, captivated by the stunning views of the Val d’Elsa valley. Though initially intended as a family retreat, Fabrizio soon recognized the potential of the land for viticulture and set out to make it a full-fledged winery.
In 1962, Fabrizio produced the first vintage of Il Poggio which was a trailblazing move for Chianti Classico as it was made exclusively from grapes grown in a single vineyard, unique in a region that historically had only produced wines blended from multiple vineyards. Il Poggio also became the first single-vineyard Chianti Classico Riserva and this set a new benchmark for quality and terroir expression. The revolutionary Il Poggio is Castello di Monsanto's flagship wine and has cemented this producer as an icon of not just Chianti - but all of Tuscany.
