Chateau Les Carmes Haut Brion
Chateau Les Carmes Haut Brion
Established in 1584 and initially belonged to Carmelite monks until it was sold following the French Revolution. Since 2010, it has been under the ownership of the Pichet Group, making it the only Bordeaux château with vineyards inside the city limits.
The estate covers 10 hectares, planted with an uncommon mix of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a distinctive profile. The main wine, Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, is known for its elegance and longevity, while the second wine, Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion, is more approachable. A winery designed by Philippe Starck incorporates gravity-fed vinification for precision.
Winemaker Guillaume Pouthier uses whole-cluster fermentation and aging in barrels and amphorae, adding to the wine’s complexity.
