With roots that reach back to the late 1700s, Chateau Montrose became an official wine estate in 1815 when Theodore Dumoulin planted its first vines on the once-wild Lande d’Escargeon. Across a long history, Montrose has earned a reputation for excellence, producing multiple vintages that achieved perfect 100-point ratings, firmly placing it among Bordeaux’s most admired Second Growths.
The estate’s 95 hectares form an unusually unified vineyard block overlooking the Gironde estuary, a feature that supports consistent and detailed vineyard management. Montrose’s gravel soils, underpinned by mineral-rich clay, provide ideal conditions for its Cabernet Sauvignon–led plantings, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Winemaking is carried out with exacting care: manual harvests, extensive sorting, and individual plot vinification in temperature-controlled vats.
Today, the property crafts three cuvees that showcase different expressions of its terroir and it continues to captivate wine lovers with wines that combine power, refinement, and impressive durability.
