Nestled on the southern slopes of Saint-Émilion, Château Pavie traces its roots back to the 4th century, when the Romans first planted vines on this very site. The name “Pavie” comes from the orchards of peach trees (pêchers de Pavie) that once grew here, long before the estate’s vineyards became legendary. Through centuries of change, ownership, and quiet evolution, Pavie built a reputation for producing wines that marry power with elegance, a reflection of both its terroir and the hands that shaped it.
In the modern era, the estate’s destiny took a dramatic turn under Gérard Perse, who purchased Château Pavie in 1998. Perse brought a vision of precision and ambition, transforming the vineyards and cellars with meticulous replanting, reduced yields, and state-of-the-art winemaking. The results were nothing short of revolutionary: richly structured, deeply concentrated wines that stood shoulder to shoulder with the greatest of Bordeaux. In 2012, Château Pavie was elevated to the coveted rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé A, the pinnacle of Saint-Émilion’s classification, cementing its place among the elite.
Today, Pavie’s 37 hectares are a patchwork of clay-limestone soils that give Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon their remarkable depth and balance. The wines are unapologetically bold in youth, dark, opulent, and layered with spice and graphite, yet over time they reveal haunting finesse and minerality.
