Block 2 is a sensational pinot; the sole clone is MV6; 20% whole bunch; 20% new French oak puncheons; on lees until bottled February '11. It has a richer fruit profile, more black cherry and plum clafouti flavours backed by outstanding tannins that nail the structure. It is also intensely perfumed, with rose petals and spices that will build further with time.

It has an almost brooding bouquet of dark fruits, brambles and undergrowth, five spice, cinnamon, blue flowers and lifted piquancy of citrus. The palate is plush, pluming with more of the berry fruit and faint sous bois, but pure and fine. Has the architecture that is hallmark to Yabby Lake, tightness, needing time to unfurl, but shows a generosity and power that will seduce many. Serious pinot noir, individual texture and shape, opens then zip-locks, built, yet pleasing for complexity. Near complete for pleasure and intrigue.
