Ah, Vega Sicilia! This isn't just any winery; it's one of the most prized Spanish wines. Founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves, a Bordeaux-trained Spanish winemaker, Vega Sicilia was born out of a vision to create wines that could rival the best of France. Lecanda brought back vine cuttings from Bordeaux and planted them in the Ribera del Duero region.
Since 1982, the winery has been under the Álvarez family, who have continued to uphold its prestigious legacy.
Nestled in the Ribera del Duero region of northern Spain, Vega Sicilia's vineyards benefit from a harsh climate and limestone-rich soils. The estate is located in Valbuena de Duero, Valladolid, Castile and León.
Vega Sicilia is celebrated for its legendary wines, at the centre of that legacy is Único, a wine that lives up to its name. It’s aged for nearly a decade before release, a process that demands patience and precision.
