More About The Producer

Domaine Armand Rousseau, a legendary Burgundy estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, is revered worldwide for producing some of the most iconic expressions of Pinot Noir. The domaine was established by Armand Rousseau in the early 1900s. Armand, originally a vigneron who inherited a few parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin, gradually expanded his holdings over the years.

In the 1920s and 1930s, he acquired some of the most coveted plots in Burgundy, including Chambertin and Clos de Beze. After Armand Rousseau’s untimely death in 1959, his son Charles took over and further developed the domaine’s reputation, adhering to traditional practices while refining winemaking techniques. The current custodian, Eric Rousseau, has continued the family legacy, bringing in gentle innovations to maintain the estate’s exceptional quality and character. The estate owns approximately 15 hectares of prized vineyards with over half representing Grand Cru vineyards. The domaine produces wines with a pale hue and a finely structured profile, marked by great elegance and impressive longevity.

The Rousseau style is defined by the simple principle of using old (but not ancient) vines and managing yields sensibly. While the wines may seem light in their youth, they consistently gain weight and complexity as they mature. The World of Wine owns a number of Domaine Armand Rousseau, please be in contact with your private wine broker to secure an allocation.
